On her blog Amanda Earl talks about VERSeFest, Ottawa's annual poetry festival that takes place from March 12-17, along with some recommendations on what events to see. In a separate post, she provides additional tips on poets to watch.
Ottawa poet Rob Mclennan interviews Rachel Lebowitz, a Halifax-based writer who will be reading at Raw Sugar Cafe (692 Somerset Street West) on Thursday, March 14 at 5:30 pm, along with with Sandra Ridley. Lebowitz is the author of Hannus, a poetic biography of her great-grandmother Ida Hannus, a Finnish-Canadian suffragist and socialist who lived in Vancouver in the late-19th and 20th-centuries. The book was shortlisted for the 2007 Roderick Haig-Brown Regional BC Book Prize and the Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-Fiction. She is also the author of Cottonopolis, a sequence of prose and found poems about the Industrial Revolution that is set to be released on March 15.
Finally, Meaghan Smith of the blog Feeling a Little Bookish has an interesting post that discusses how books are marketed, and what impact this has on reading habits.
